What is Social Media?

What is Social Media?
Social media are computer-based technologies that provide interactive platforms facilitating the creation or sharing of information, ideas, and forms of expression through virtual communities and networks.
They are widely accessible with the increasing necessity of smart phones and offer the user the ability to connect with not only they’re history of friends, introductions and preferred brands, but also like-minded strangers and companies that they otherwise may not have been exposed to.
The most common social media platforms for the audience our clients want to reach are Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. All three of these platforms are popular because of their accessibility, connectivity and diversity using not only the written work, but sound and video to communicate.
According to the Social Media News, as of January 2020, there are more than 16 million monthly active users on Facebook, 15 million on YouTube and 9 million on Instagram.

While LinkedIn has approximately 5.5 million monthly active users, three out of four users are business decision makers, managers and owners making it an attractive option for B2B (business to business) marketing.

Other social channels include WhatsApp, Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter, Pinterest and Messenger, which all have their audience and their uses, but we recommend sticking to three main platforms that are actively used by the organisation’s target audience, and focusing on growing your brand’s community using these three channels of two-way communication.

TASK – using your target audience information, which three social media channels should you be focusing on? Have you secured your business accounts on these three channels? We suggest you do it before someone else does! If you need help creating accounts, give our team a call and we’ll give you some guidance.
